Obituary for Marvin Eugene (Bob) Burks On October 7, 2018, Marvin Eugene “Bob” Burks, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 75 at his home in Thomasville, GA. Services are pending at this time. Bob was born on August 27, 1943 to Pete and Marion Burks in Covington, VA. He grew up in Calhoun, TN and earned an Industrial Management and Engineering degree from the University of Tennessee. He was in the ROTC at the University of Tennessee and from there was commissioned as a first lieutenant into the Army. He married Nancy Grier from Valdosta, GA in April of 1966, and they spent 52 married years together as sweethearts and best friends. Together they raised one daughter, Pam, who is married to Chris Goff and also lives in Thomasville. He spent 30 years in the home fashions industry, working for the Kellwood Company in Perry, GA; St. Louis, Mo; and Lewisburg, WVA, and then for Thomasville Home Furnishings in Thomasville, GA. He retired from Archbold Hospital in 2017 where he worked in the Engineering Department. Bob was a member of Thomasville First United Methodist Church and the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class, where he was blessed to serve and worship his Savior, Jesus Christ. He could often be found greeting his church family and visitors on Sunday mornings. He was passionate about his faith and the evangelism ministries of each church he was a member of through the years. He loved being “Papaw” to his grandchildren, Zach, Clay and Emma Goff sharing many wonderful times with them. He was a vital presence in their lives, always offering them the gifts of his time and generous love. He had a special gift and love of drafting house plans for his family and friends through the years. He enjoyed his Monday morning men’s fellowship group. Bob enjoyed vacations at the beach, watching the sunsets with his wife, drinking coffee at any time of day, reading a good book, but most of all spending time with his family. Those times were precious to him. He will be remembered for his unselfish love, unending dedication to his family and faithful commitment to Jesus.
