Margaret Freda Donath – – Margaret Freda Donath, age 88, died on Friday, October 5, following a short illness. She was in full command of her faculties to the end and blessedly passed peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gerhard Fred Donath. She was born on July 3, 1930, the daughter of Carl and Friedrike Dickheuer, German immigrants who came to Schenectady, New York, in the early 1920s. She is survived by her son David, his wife Cathleen, her daughter Elaine Bruce and her husband, David. Her grandchildren are Carley Nelson and her husband Jonathan; James Donath and his wife Sasha; Melissa Kozlowski and her husband James. Her great-grandchildren are Carter and Parker Nelson, Margaret Cavoretto, and Elijah, Trace and Nevan Kozlowski. Also surviving her are her sister Betty, her husband Gerald R. Smith, their children and grandchildren, and her cousin Elmer Priess and his family. As the matriarch of her family, Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, beloved by all as “Momma.” She was a devout member of Community Lutheran Church in South Burlington, and she led her family with a strong faith and sense of Christian and human values. Although we all will miss her dearly, we take joy in knowing that she is in the arms of the Lord and in the company of her beloved Gerhard, her parents, and the family members and friends who have gone before her. Her funeral service will be Thursday, October 11 at 11:00 am at Community Lutheran Church, 1560 Williston Road in South Burlington. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, the American Heart Association , or a charity of your choice .
