Lydia Henriette Hoff (nee Wael), of Marquette, Michigan passed quietly in her sleep on the morning of October 20, 2018 after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born in Brussels Belgium in 1920, Lydia was a member of the Allied Expeditionary Force during WWII. She was part of the first Red Cross team to enter the concentration camp at Dachau to liberate and to care for the holocaust survivors. Lydia came to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship… Read More » in 1950 where she met her future husband, Peter Hoff. They moved to Marquette in 1968. She worked as a physical therapist for Upper Peninsula Home Health and as a consultant for the Marquette County Health Department until 1998 when she was 78 years old. At the time of her retirement, she was older than most of her patients. Lydia was preceded in death by her son, Carl in 1985 and her husband, Peter in 1994. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Isabel and Wayne Francis of Marquette, her lifelong friend and extended family member, Matthew Edgell of Pittsburgh, and her three grandchildren: Thomas Edgell of Grand Junction, CO; Catherine Edgell of Portland, OR and Sarah Edgell of Marquette. There will be memorial gathering and visitation on Monday, October 22, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at the Canale Tonella Funeral Home, 526 North Third Street Marquette. Memorial remembrances will be offered at 6 p.m. Monday with Matt Edgell facilitating.
