Kermit Gothberg 2018

OBITUARY Kermit Gothberg March 17, 1924 – August 10, 2018 In Loving Memory of Kermit Walter Gothberg March 17th 1924 – August 10th 2018 In loving memory of Kermit Walter Gothberg, March 17th, 1924 – August 10th, 2018. Kermit Gothberg, lifetime resident of Yakima, Washington, passed away at the young age of 94. He was born on March 17th, 1924 to Fingal and Elizabeth Gothberg at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1942 and took on the responsibilities of running the family farm and homestead after his father’s passing. Kermit always kept himself busy whether with the orchard, where he spent his seasons tending the trees or bringing sweet treats to the workers, or with the large yard on the hill, known for the splendid tree lights and nativity scene set out every Christmas. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the latest Mariners game, singing in the Camerata Club and Wiley Heights Church Choirs, or spending time with his family. Along with life-long ties to the Yakima farming communities, Kermit was immersed in the Wiley Heights Covenant Church community throughout his life; he was an embodiment of Titus 3:2 “to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.” He was a constant joyful presence in the lives of his family and neighbors; laughter followed him easily and even a quick trip to the store would end up as jovial conversation with old friends. Kermit was notoriously welcoming with a warm and compassionate spirit. He was very fond of all of our friends in the animal kingdom (with a particular love of collie dogs), and took to life with an easy-going grace and humor. He is preceded in death by his first wife Edith (Anderson) Gothberg, his parents Fingal and Elizabeth Gothberg, and his sisters Irma Johnson, Dagmer Dahlberg, and Beatrice Wikstrom. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Smedberg) Gothberg; his children, Brad Gothberg, Yvonne (Gothberg) Felix, Victoria (Smith) Johnson, and Kenton Smith; and his grandchildren Megan Smith, William Felix, Abigail Felix, Colton Smith, and Emily Smith. A memorial service will be held at Wiley Heights Covenant Church on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a lunch following. Memorial contributions may be made to Wiley Heights Covenant Church or your favorite charity. Keith and Keith Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
