OBITUARY Joyce Miller Solomon October 7, 1927 – October 20, 2018 Joyce Miller Solomon, 91, passed away peacefully at the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, N.C., Oct. 20, 2018. She was the daughter of Thelma Edith Miller and Jack Miller of Pamlico County. Born Oct. 7, 1927 in Pamlico County, she graduated from Stonewall High School in 1946. After high school, Joyce worked at the Sewing Room in New Bern making men’s slacks. She also lived in St. Louis, Mo., and Sturdivant, Mo., and Washington, D.C. While living in the nation’s capital, she worked for ARA Food Services in the Pentagon for 27 years. Noted for her optimism and good cheer, Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing a good joke. She had many friends and found pleasure in helping people. She was a frequent visitor at area hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities where she would visit with less fortunate friends and acquaintances. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and her 16-year-old daughter, Joyce Ann Welch. She is survived by many cousins and friends who will miss her quick smile and kindness. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 23rd at Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel with the Rev. Ray Griffin officiating. Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
