Obituary for Frederick Winne Jr. Frederick P. Winne, Jr., 89, formerly of Mt. Penn and Wyomissing, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, in Berkshire Center, Exeter Twp. He was the husband of Joan R. (Redd) Winne, who passed away on May 28, 2010. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Frederick P. Winne, Sr. and Marion (Foldy) Black. Fred was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark NJ and then attended Seton Hall University. Fred served in various ministries and activities at St. Catharine of Siena Parish, where he was a member for over 60 years. He was active in the Serra Club, Cursillo, the Alumni Association of Reading Central Catholic High School, and was a leader in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years. He served on boards or committees with St. Joseph Hospital, Mary’s Shelter, Covenant Home Care, and various other organizations. One of the greatest joys of his life was to be a helper of Santa Claus for over 45 years, especially by visiting 20-25 homes on Christmas Eve. He and Joan enjoyed traveling, having gone on about 15 cruises and many bus trips to different parts of the country. He served in the National Guard. Fred was an underwriter for various insurance companies, and in the last 11 years of his career, by invitation of FEMA, he was one of the founders and developers of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), working in Washington DC. Fred is survived by one son, the Rev. George R. Winne of Allentown; one daughter, Suzanne (Winne) Hart, wife of Steven J. Hart of Exeter Township. He was married to Anna MacNeill for three years. Fr. George and Suzanne are very grateful for the care and support of all the staff of Berkshire Commons, Berkshire Center, and Caring Hospice. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 30th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 7:00 pm in St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C.–Exeter Township, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading. Entombment will be private in Gethsemane’s Bornemann Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Catharine of Siena School, 2347 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606.
