Obituary for Fred Charles Cross Fred Charles Cross, a United Army Air Corps WWII veteran, passed away at the age of 96, on Friday, October 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Emma Cross; and his sisters Marion Durham, Maxine (Priest) Ingersoll, Emmaline Omilian, and Doris Ciluffo. Surviving Fred are his brother William “Bill” (Kathy) Cross; and his sisters, Ruth (Baki) Durham, Margaret Melinn, Lois Osytek; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved members of the family. Fred was in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC)— he proudly served his flag and country as a radioman in B-24 Liberator, surviving numerous, harrowing missions in the skies of Europe. Fred held many jobs after the war and owned several bars for decades. After his retirement in 1964, he tended bar at the Forty and Eight Club. Fred will be fondly remembered for his love of the Detroit Tigers, going to the casinos, and for his gift of gab. He loved to read every day and enjoyed watching sports and the History channel. He was a member of the Forty and Eight Club, as well as the American Legion Northeastern Post 459 for seventy-three years. The funeral service with Military Honors will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street NE, Rockford, MI 49341. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
