Obituary for Ellen Hester It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Ellen Hester (Walden) announces her passing on October 1, 2018 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS following an unexpected illness. Ellen will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 58 years, Clovis Dudley Hester and her children Sheila McCollum of Amory; Tony Hester (Tami) of Hatley; and Mitzi Hester (Phil Gordon) of Meridian. She will be fondly remembered by her four grandchildren Ashley Hester of Nashville, TN; Ross Hester (Cassie Atkins) of Hatley; Blake McCollum (Joyce Li) of Tupelo; Collin Hester (Sarah Beth Warner) of Florence, AL; two sisters Ann Richardson (Arnold) of Becker; Louise Adams (Junior) of Ethelsville, AL; sisters-in-law, Joy Bell Walden of Wren and Glenda Brown; brother-in-law, Danny Hester (Cassie) of the Cason Community; and several nieces and nephews. A native of Amory, Ellen was born April 19, 1941 to her parents, James Clayton and Marguerite Dryden Walden. She worked as a sales associate downtown at Clothes Hanger and as a Special Education teacher assistant in Amory Schools. Her favorite job was housewife, mother, and grandmother. When her children were in school, she enjoyed chaperoning Amory Panther Band trips, competitions, and football games. Some of things she enjoyed doing included tending to her flowers, watching the hummingbirds, feeding the doves, word puzzles, making sure her grandchildren stayed fed and warm, and wore their jackets. She loved her great grand-dog, Mac and while spoiling him, she would often be found sneaking him food from the table. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Pete, Lawrence, and Herbert Walden; and three sisters, Evelyn Walden, Helen Sims, and Martha Nash; and brothers-in-law, Jack Brown and Kenneth Hester. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Minister Philip Hathcock officiating. Private burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ross Hester, Colin Hester, Blake McCollum, Phil Gordon, Jeremy Hester, Bart Brown, Mark Brown, and Darrin Brown. Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
