E Louise Stauffer 2018

E. Louise Stauffer passed from this life on October 26, 2018, at her home of 54 years. She was born Eleanor Louise Ditzler in Lancaster city in 1929 to Eleanor (Rineer) and William C. Ditzler. Louise graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School class of 1946 and began working as a bookkeeper at Farmers’ Bank & Trust. When they were 19, she married Kenneth Stauffer whom she called Ted. Their romance began on her 15th birthday when he upset her canoe on the Conestoga, hoping for a date. They recently renewed their vows on their 70th anniversary. They moved to Penbrook in 1959 after four of their five children were born. About 1973 to 1983 she was employed as a receptionist and bookkeeper at the optometrist practice of Paul Vonada. She was a nearly 60- year member at Penbrook United Church of Christ, much of it under the pastoral care of Rev. Dr. Robert Stoudt. She especially enjoyed her years of service on the kitchen committee with Ted and friends and coordinating the church’s booth at the Bethany Children’s’ Home annual bazaar. Louise enjoyed camping and boating, visiting 49 states, listening to music and football games, especially the Penn State Nittany Lions. She is survived by her husband Kenneth of Penbrook, four children, Kenneth (Ramona) of Salmon, Idaho, Mary Tanner (David), of Port Treverton, Susan Grogan (Michael) of Duncannon, and Kathleen Ross (Karl) of Wallingford, Vermont. She was predeceased by her son Michael David of Penbrook. She joins him and her dear grandmother, Nanny, in heaven. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Contributions in Louise’s memory may be made to Penbrook United Church of Christ, 56 Banks St., Harrisburg. A service is planned there for Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:00 am. Visiting hours begin at 10:00 am.
