Obituary for Dean A. Sleik Dean A. Sleik, 75, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center. Dean was born August 28, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI, son of the late John and Marien (Larson) Sleik. He was a 1961 graduate of Greenfield High School in Milwaukee. Following graduation Dean enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged after serving his country for six years. He married Sharon Igou on March 10, 1966 in Cheyenne, WY. Dean was employed at Briggs & Stratton in Milwaukee for over 30 years, retiring in 1991 and moving to Iron Mountain. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain where he sang in the choir for many years. Dean was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, feeding deer and spending time at camp. For many summers, he and his family took camping trips with their favorite spot being the Way Dam Campground. Dean frequently played cards at the Senior Center with his friends and took trips to the casino where he especially enjoyed playing craps. He also enjoyed many a mornings going to Mark’s Auto for a gab-fest, gossiping and laughing with all the guys. He loved spending time with his family and had a close bond with his beloved dog Sassy. Dean will be sadly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon; a son, Kevin (Erica) Sleik of Pewaukee, WI; three daughters, Kim (Kevin) Schmelebeck of South Milwaukee, Karmen (Michael) Kron of Milwaukee and Kaylene (Steve) Mathieu of Quinnesec; a brother, Gary (Sharon) Sleik of Iron Mountain; 12 grandchildren, Dominique, Dean, Brian (Leida), Jason, Jessica, Kayla, Amber, Austin, John (Lili), Randall, Jared (Missy) and Karissa (Brandon); 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that loved and cherished Uncle Dean. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson-in-law, Rickey. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. A memorial service will follow at noon with Pastor Walter Reichle officiating. Full military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the service.
