Obituary for Dana Simons (Crooks) Dana Renee Simons, age 59, Erwin, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 15, 2018 in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Central Louisiana and lived most of her life there. Dana and her husband moved to Unicoi County ten years ago. She is a daughter of Lionel Crooks and the late Frances Keene Crooks. Dana graduated from Northwestern State University with her BS degree in Nursing. She graduated from Valdosta State University where she received her Masters Degree in Nursing. She was employed by Ballad Health where she worked as a Nursing Instructor. Dana loved nursing, teaching and caring for her patients. Dana loved animals and was a passionate volunteer, helping rescue animals. She was involved with PAWS and the Unicoi County Animal Shelter. Dana considered her cats, Charlie, Chaplin, Anthony and Ani a part of her family. She loved them dearly. Dana enjoyed painting, reading and being a Yoga Instructor. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Dana will be greatly missed by her family and remain in their hearts forever. In addition to her father, she leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of forty-one years, Roland Smith Simons; twin sons: Justin Simons (Elizabeth), Alexandria, LA, Dustin Simons (Caroline), Pineville, LA; two grandchildren: Isabelle and Joseph Simons; one sister, Melanie Thomas (Steve), Lenoir City, TN; one brother, Carey Crooks (Brenda), Vick, LA; one half brother, Scott Glenn “Crooks”, Walker, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday, October 26, 2018 in the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home Pineville Chapel. Father Dan O’Connor will officiate the 6:30 P.M. memorial service.
