Clifford I Shaffer 2018

Harrisburg- Cliff Shaffer, 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 after a brave battle with ALS. Born in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Jacqueline and Herbert Shaffer. Following graduation from the University of Wisconsin, he pursued a career as a real estate developer and started a family in Chicago with his wife, Wendy Shaffer. After Founding Wireless Communication Consultants, Cliff and his family moved to Harrisburg, PA. Cliff excelled at his work but he is most well known for his ability to bring people together. His childhood and college friendships remained strong throughout his life due to Cliff’s persistent effort to remain present in the lives he cared about. Passionate about music, Cliff often listened to the Beatles and played guitar, a talent he seldom bragged about. Cliff was humble and a giving friend, father and husband. A simple mission guided Cliff: to make people laugh. A legendary friend, and a man of many words, there were so many that experienced his quick wit and compassion. Cliff was a loyal, empathetic, curious man who cared deeply about his children. Engaged with news, both satirical and traditional, Cliff carefully considered social issues, politics and current events. He also was an avid Chicago sports fan. Cliff is survived by his wife, Wendy, of 25 years, and cherished boys Sam and Jason Shaffer. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Jan (Nick) Garcia, Susan Shaffer and 3 nieces, Danielle (Pat) Sarsfield, Rachel (Blaine) Larkin, and Julia Reed. Cliff was extremely grateful for his care while battling ALS. He particularly appreciated the help from Nana Karateng, his home health companion of 2 years; Alair Altiero, and Maureen Reed from the ALS Association, and Kay Herre, and Brian Strawser from Homeland Hospice. Cliff had compassion for those less fortunate, so, in lieu of flowers and in his honor, please send donations to Rabbi Muroff in care of Chisuk Emuna, 3219 Green Street, Harrisburgh, PA 17110. The money will be used to purchase medical and care items for those struggling with the financial burdens of ALS. Friends can pay their respects on Sunday, September 30th at the Shaffer home at 2268 Forest Hills Dr., Harrisburg, PA 17112. The arrangements for the family are under the care of Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home. Online condolences: www.BitnerCares.com.
