Betty Louise Garka Aylesworth 2018

OBITUARY Betty Louise Garka Aylesworth June 22, 1924 – October 25, 2018 Betty Louise Aylesworth died at age 94 on Thursday, October 25, 2018, surrounded by members of her beloved family, at Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington, Washington. Betty was born June 22, 1924, in Everett Washington to Al and Signe Garka. She attended Edgecomb and Arlington schools and graduated from Arlington High School in 1941. On July 5, 1942, she married the love of her life, Cecil Edgar Aylesworth, in her parent’s home in Edgecomb. They happily lived out their married life in the home Ed and her father built. A traditional farmer’s wife, Betty milked cows, raised chickens, tended the most beautiful garden of flowers and vegetables, baked bread, made butter, and sewed her children’s clothes. She also delighted in doing handwork. It wasn’t unusual to see stacks of crocheted doilies and afghans, baskets of knitted dishcloths, and embroidered pillowcases with crocheted lace in her living room. Betty also made quilted blankets for many family members and most recently crocheted lap blankets for Hospice of the Northwest. Throughout her life, Betty was very active in the Arlington United Church and volunteered at the Arlington Well Child Clinic and Arlington Food Bank. In retirement, both Betty and Ed enjoyed delivering flower arrangements for Flowers By George and worked with the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneers to build and operate the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum. Betty was a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always there! Family was of utmost importance to her, and she was pleased that family gatherings were regularly scheduled throughout each year. She felt very blessed by her family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Al and Signe Garka; husband, Ed Aylesworth; brothers: Don Garka and Jerry Garka and Jerry’s wife, Jonne Garka. Betty is survived by her five children: Sandy (Stan) Nelson, Lois (Bob) Yale, Diana (Dusty) Barber, Janet Giese and Ed (Susan) Aylesworth; 14 grandchildren: Jill (Rob) Hatfield, Karl (Stephanie) Nelson, Brian (Jenny) Bergman, Wendy (Don) Everts, Ellen (Tom) Walworth, Bryndal Barber, Max Barber, Jason (Donnelle) Giese, Rebecca (Mike) Jones, Joel Giese, Sarah (Troy) Kramer, Jacob (Melissa) Aylesworth, Josiah Aylesworth, and Evie (Ray) Cook; and 19 great grandchildren, with twins on the way. There will be a celebration of Betty’s life on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11:00 am at the Arlington United Church. Memorials may be made to the Arlington Food Bank, Heifer International or the charity of your choice.
