Bernadine Marie (Zell) Wiles, 90, of Redfield, SD passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Redfield. Her funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Tammy Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Frankfort, SD. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com). Bernadine Marie Zell was born October 4, 1928 at the family farm southwest of Doland, SD to Melvin and Susan (Rouse) Zell. She attended the Red Star Grade School and Doland High School before graduating from Frankfort High School in 1946. In 1947, Bernadine married Evan Wiles and worked at Lampes Market in Huron, SD for five years. She gave birth to one daughter, Cynthia. The family moved to Sioux Falls where she was a stay-at-home mom from then on. They moved to Redfield in 2001. She devoted her life to caring for her family. She cared for her husband throughout a long illness and cared for her two grandchildren. Drawing and refinishing antique furniture were favorite hobbies and Bernadine also enjoyed growing irises. There is a sign at Leo’s Good Food that says, “Pie Fixes Everything.” Bernadine must have thought so too because she enjoyed eating pie for breakfast. Bernadine is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Richard) Schuttler of Rapid City, SD; granddaughter, Harmony (Matthew Klahn) Schuttler of San Francisco, CA; and sister, Laura (Boyer) Eidsness of Grinnell, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan; sister, Geraldine (Whirley) Starkey; brothers: Walter Zell, Joseph Zell and Fredrich Zell; and grandson, Alexander Wiles Schuttler.
