William Moor Hames 2018

In this age where we define people by what they do for a living, William “Bill” Hames was a tax lawyer. The intricacies and mind numbing details of tax law was what he did for a living, but what he did while living was far more important. At age 13 he attempted to rebuild his first car. That attempt nearly abbreviated the story of Bill, as his insatiable curiosity led to a lit match at the edge of a rusted gas tank. After law school he joined the law firm of Sutherland, Asbill, & Brennan where he practiced his entire career. He had two children and has spent the better part of fifty years providing for them in all of the important ways. He attended countless games, recitals and plays. All one had to do to locate him in a theatre was to locate the blinding spotlight and the consistent clicking of his 8 mm camera in the audience. He fished. He listened. He offered solutions when none seemed possible. He met the love of his life, Doris, and spent the rest of his days loving her and being loved by her. He taught himself to be a gourmet chef, often treating his partners and Doris to several gastric delights. He was more than handy around the house. He made furniture and built on an addition to his home mostly by himself. He was a gardener who enjoy growing tulips and orchids. He painted reproductions of paintings that spoke to him and made model ships. He traveled the world often bringing back shirts that demonstrated his ever deteriorating eyesight. He started a charitable organization to help inner city youth and their families. He did all of this without seeking the spotlight himself. He was a kind and humble man that was well loved by those who knew him. Saturday August 4, 2018, a visitation with the family will be held at A.S.
