Viola Wall Traxel 1916 2018

Obituary of Viola Traxel Viola (Vi) Wall Mensch Traxel, 102, of Hillsborough, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Vi was born June 17, 1916, to the late Hubert and Ada Wall. She was predeceased by her eight (8) siblings, and her husbands, Don Mensch and Jack Traxel. She retired from the Hollywood, Florida school system where she worked in their school cafeteria as a baker. She relocated to Hillsborough in 2003 where she enjoyed sharing a home with her neice, Helen Crumpler. Vi was a lover of all people, especially family and every child she ever met. She loved to laugh, and to make others laugh, she was never happier then during the time she spent with friends and family. Her time at Atlantic Beach, eating a cone of ice cream, and taking walks – all gave her enormous joy. She leaves behind, a host of nieces and nephews including Helen Crumpler, Kay Johnson, Jean Huff (Ralph), Sharon Wood (Russ), Dan Byrum (Ellen), and Don Gower (Pam). Additionally, many great nieces and nephews. Her special friend Helen Kitchens, along with Joan, Nancy and Eddie, will miss her greatly. Also, she leaves behind her neighborhood friends including Jan, Gerrie, and Mable. A special thanks to her doctors and nurses at Hock Family Pavillion for their excellent care, and her caretakers at Brookshire Rehabilitative Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hock Family Pavilion (4023 N. Roxboro St., Durham, NC 27704), or Brookshire Nursing Center (300 Meadowlands Dr., Hillsborough, NC 27278). Interment will be private in Maryland where her husband Don Mensch is laid to rest. The Traxel family is under the care of Walker’s Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
