Obituary for Vera Carol Neal Vera Carol Neal, 76, of Bluefield, WV died on Monday, July 30. Born on January 12, 1942 in Mud Fork in Tazewell County, VA, she was a daughter of the late John Franklin Billips and Mary Helen Billips. Vera was employed by Mercer County Schools for twenty-eight years before she retired in 2007. During most of that time she was employed in Special Education. She absolutely loved working with children and had many special memories of the students she worked with through the years. It was not uncommon for former students to recognize her when she was out and come up to talk to her and give her a hug. In her spare time, she loved doing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. She never missed an opportunity to say something funny or cheer for the Tazewell Bulldogs. She was a member of Maple View Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Ivory; three brothers William “Bill” Billips, John D. “Johnny” Billips and Edward “Eddie” Billips, an aunt that was raised as her sister, Margaret Hans; and a special niece who was like a sister, Iva Freeman. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Clifton T. “Hank” Neal, Jr.; her children, Lee Neal of Bluefield, WV, Mary Ellen “Missy” Richardson (Jeff), of Newport, KY, and Lora Covey (Stuart), of Dublin, VA; her grandchildren, Sydney Covey, Parker Covey and Mason Covey; a brother, Dale Billips of Alexandria, VA; a sister, Hilda Danilowicz of Niagra Falls, NY; two sister-in-laws; Jean Billips of Bluefield, VA and Pam Sparks (Douglas “Buddy”), of Abingdon, VA; three brother-in-laws; Robert “Bob” Neal (Brenda), of Bluefield, WV, Jerry Neal (Karan), of Hurricane, WV and Mike “Joe” Neal (Marcie), of Oak Ridge, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday August 4, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Minister Tony Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making memorial contributions to the Bluefield Union Mission, 2203 Bluefield Ave., Bluefield, WV 24701 or Maple View Church of Christ, 194 Robins Rest Rd., Bluefield, WV 24701.
