OBITUARY Thomas R. Smith September 6, 1956 – August 9, 2018 Thomas Robbins Smith, M.D., age 61, of Riverside, RI formerly of Swansea, MA, Baltimore, MD, Manhattan and Stoneybrook, NY died Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was born in Gallipolis, OH, the son of the late Dr. Arthur K. Smith and Patricia Ann (Robbins) Smith. Tom was a graduate of St. George’s School in Middletown, RI ‘74, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University, ’78 and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati Medical School ’83. Dr. Smith, was employed as a Trauma Surgeon at Lincoln, Jacobi and Montefiore in the Bronx, U. Maryland, Shock Trauma and Veteran’s Administration in Baltimore, MD and Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Trauma Society and Society of Critical Care Medicine. He held several academic and administrative appointments in several of these centers. He is survived by his four siblings, Peter K. Smith M.D. (Cynthia) of Chapel Hill, NC, Elizabeth A. Goldberg (Marshall) of E. Providence, RI; Mellissa J. Smith (Venkatesh) of Bedford, MA and John M. Smith (Patchara) of Bedford, NH; nieces/nephews Jesse Goldberg, Rebekah Ortell, Sateesh Venkatesh, and Sophia, Chelsea, Abigail, Emma and Arthur Smith also a great niece Shaun Elizabeth Ortell. Visiting Hours will be held Monday, August 13, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, MA. Burial will be private.
