OBITUARY Thomas Benedict Casey June 1, 1925 – August 12, 2018 Thomas Benedict Casey, of Ponchatoula, died Sunday, August 12, in Hammond, Louisiana. He was born June 1, 1925, and raised in New Orleans, where he attended school at Mater Dolorosa, St. Aloysius, SJ Peters High, and Spencer Business College. During WWII, he served in the US Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Casey worked at the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce and was a long-time employee of Dixie Highway Express. He was also employed in the construction industry and finally at the Louisiana DOTD, from which he retired after many years of service. Before moving to Ponchatoula, he was a resident of Good Hope and Norco, and was a founding member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a talented sketch artist and he enjoyed writing, studying history, and bird-watching. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Judith “Judy” Bourgeois Casey; his parents, James and Virginia Byrnes Casey; his siblings, James Casey, Mary “May” Casey, and Elizabeth LaGreca; his twin sister, Celine Casey; his in-laws Earle “Duke” and Noelie Bourgeois; and his brother-in-law Monsignor Joseph Bourgeois. Beloved father of Daphne Gardner (David), Denise Naquin (Michael), Laurie Bivalacqua (Nathan), Beth Casey, Kathleen Tucker (Michael), Timothy Casey (Susan), Sean Casey (Rachel), Christopher Casey (Jan), and Jenny LeRay (Scott). He will be missed by his thirty-one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was held at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
