Obituary for Shirley Meadows (Shortt) Mrs. Shirley Dimple Shortt Meadows, age 79, of Rowe, Virginia, passed away Monday (July 30, 2018) at her home. Born September 11, 1938 in Skeggs, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Rosa Hess Shortt. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and she loved gardening and tending to her flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Terry Shortt, Ellis Shortt, Orvill Shortt, Cecil Shortt and Arthur Shortt and three sisters, Lola Shortt, Cora Looney and Dora Childress. Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Harvey “T” Meadows of the home; three daughters, Betty Hurt, Joann Dye and husband, Verlin and Brenda Jackson and husband, Ron all of Rowe, Virginia; four grandchildren, Lisa Harris and husband, Junior, Darrell Blankenship and wife, Tina, Amy Street and husband, Jerry and David Dye and wife, Ashley; one step-granddaughter, Jessica Whitt and husband, Adam; great-grandchildren, Justin Harris and wife, Danielle, Austin Street and Kaleb Dye; step-great-grandchildren, Gavin Whitt, Maggie Whitt and Brilly McCoy; several additional step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Effie Houchins; special friends, Darrell and Joetta Blankenship and Michael Fletcher; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Shortridge and Rev. Anthony Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the Street Cemetery at Rowe, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Darrell Blankenship, Jr., David Dye, Jerry Street, Junior Harris, Ralph Childress and Larry Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Fletcher, Darrell Blankenship, Sr., Justin Harris, Austin Street and Kaleb Dye. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Wednesday at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM with Rev. Leonard Meadows officiating.
