Roy Phillip Anderson was born on July 1, 1926 to Edgar P. and Dolly [Paul] Anderson at home on Brady Island, NE. He passed away August 11, 2018. He grew up on the farm with his older sister, Clara and younger brother and sister, Lloyd and Hazel. He and Lloyd spent a lot of time fishing in the Platte River and hunting ducks. He went… Read More » through the 1949 Nebraska Patrol Camp and was assigned to Scottsbluff, NE, on May 1, 1950. He was a trooper in Kimball, NE, before being transferred to Gordon, NE, in October 1963. He and Keith Peterson were the first State Troopers to be stationed in Sheridan County. He spent quite a bit of his patrol time in the White Clay area and made friends with the business owners and residents. He was working during the Wounded Knee Take over by AIM in 1973, the marches on Gordon, and problems at Ft. Robinson. He retired from the Patrol on May 1, 1980. He then worked as a Custodian at the Gordon Grade School for 5 years before retiring again. He married Beverly Kuhrt in 1950. They had two children, Kathryn Maud and Timothy Lloyd. He married Mary Lou Hanson in 1964. He enjoyed hunting in the Pine Ridge area of Sheridan County, fishing in the Sandhill Lakes and Rock hunting and Arrow Head hunting in the Badlands of Nebraska and South Dakota. He enjoyed wood-working and going to Craft Fairs with Mary Lou. He made toy barns and over 40 Barbie Doll Houses for gifts and to sell at the Craft Fairs plus other wood items. He enjoyed making the coffee every morning for the Morning Coffee Hour at the Gordon Senior Center with friends. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou, his daughter, Kathy [Ken] Bate of Rushville, NE, his son, Tim [Tonya] Anderson of Ft. Morgan, CO. 5 Granddaughters, Tesla [Ray] Mann, Tara [Cleat] Young, Tricia Anderson, and Sierra Benner all of Ft. Morgan, Co, and Tianna Rose of Hay Springs, NE. 3 Great-Grandchildren, Shalee Howton, Dillon Howton and Alix Young of Ft. Morgan, Co. and 1 Great-Great Grandchild, Bentley; his sister, Hazel [Delmar] Miller of North Platte, NE and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lloyd, who was killed in Korea, and his sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Frank Shupe of Denver, CO. The Funeral service will be Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Gordon, NE, at 2 pm. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE, on Friday, August 17, at 1 pm Central Standard Time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Senior Center or the Gordon United Methodist Church and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366 Gordon, NE 69343.
