Ron Lessentine 1943 2018

Obituary for Ron Lessentine LESSENTINE, Ronald Bernard “Ron”, age 74, passed away on July 19th, 2018, at his home in Dayton after a long battle with leukemia. He was born in Marblehead, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Annabelle {Dress} Lessentine, on December 15th, 1943. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in organic chemistry in 1965. He came to Dayton that year to work at Monsanto Research as a research chemist. As a chemist he also worked at Standard Register, Hewitt Soap Company and Cargill. He also owned the TC Supper Club in Kettering and owned in partnership an insulation company. He switched gears after 20 years and became a sales rep. for building supplies (PK Lumber/Erb/Stock Builders} from which he retired after 22 years. After retirement he became a field rep. for Pennoni Consulting Engineers. Ron was a former member of the Dayton Ski Club and the Day-Oh Water Ski Club. He belonged to the Dayton Railway Historical Society and the Shiloh Athletic Club. He loved biking, cross-country skiing, camping, fishing for Lake Erie perch, traveling; he was an avid reader; and after being cajoled into golfing had a love-hate relationship with it. He was a licensed pilot for many years and belonged to the Crossroads Flying club. He was passionate about steam trains. Much of his travels with his wife Sylvia included train trips; in Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and most of the lower 48 states. Ron was a faithful member of North Riverdale Lutheran Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sylvia {Bailey} Lessentine, brother Richard {Kim} Lessentine of Tularosa, New Mexico, niece Autumn {Brad} Henson of Tucson, Arizona, and nephew Saben Lessentine of Tularosa. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Dan Bailey and nieces Debra {Paul} Rudolph, Marjorie Bailey {Rich Lanman}, Michelle {Bob} Romeiser, and Dianne Bailey, and a host of friends. The family would especially like to thank the 5th floor oncology department at Kettering Hospital; Rande, volunteers and the dedicated, skilled and kind nurses and technicians. At his wish, Ron’s body was donated to Wright State University Anatomical Gift Program. There will be a memorial service at North Riverdale Lutheran Church on Saturday August 25th at noon, with visitation at 11:00 am until time of service, and luncheon following the service. The service will be officiated by Pastor Monte Stevens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Riverdale Lutheran Church, 45 Kurtz Avenue Dayton Ohio, 45405.
