Obituary for Raymond E. Swett, Jr. Raymond E. Swett, Jr. – beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and an avid New York Yankee fan – was born August 9, 1920 in Queens, NY, the only child of Frieda G. Merz and Raymond E. Swett, Sr. He started golfing and caddying as a teen, graduating from Manhassett High School in 1938. He graduated from Albright College, Reading, PA with an Accounting degree in 1942. He served honorably in WW2 in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1945, mainly on bases near London, England. In London – shortly after the war ended – he married Frances Barbara Sutherland East on August 18, 1945. They returned to NY then relocated to Washington, NJ where he set up a poultry farm. They had two daughters and were members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. After selling the farm, he started a career at Ingersoll Rand’s Accounting Department in 1950 and moved the family to Phillipsburg, NJ in 1957. While there, he completed management courses, managed the former Hillcrest Club and was active on Ingersoll Rand’s golf and bowling leagues. He remained active until 2013, long after his 1983 retirement. He was an active member and past vestryman at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Phillipsburg, volunteered at Warren County Meals on Wheels and was a past board member at the Phillipsburg Free Public Library and Ingersoll Rand Federal Credit Union. He died at Above & Beyond Personal Care facility in Allentown, PA on July 16, 2018. He was a resident there since May 2016. Asera Care Hospice, also in Allentown, provided additional care for him since February 2017. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years in 2007. He is survived by his daughters Virginia Stanglein of Bethlehem, PA , Shirley Swett and her spouse Barbara Dutton of Allentown, PA, grandchildren Nathaniel Stanglein and his fiancée Christina Mondschein of Northampton, PA, Rebecca Bullard and her spouse James Bullard of Tulsa, OK and newborn great-grandchildren Cecilia Bullard and Ethan Stanglein whom he met on July 1, 2018. A Memorial Service for Raymond will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 6pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (address below). A Visitation of Family and Friends will be held from 4pm until service time at the church.
