Peter J Pashko, 88, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born in Lewiston, ME, May 15, 1930, the son of the late Vangel and Mary (Zguro) Pashko. Pete was a graduate of Cathedral High School where he was a star football, baseball and basketball player and was elected to their football hall of fame. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as military police while stationed in Japan. While in Japan he played football for the US Army and was considered a member of their All Japan Team. He worked at Westvaco for 40 years and was president of the Maintenance Workers Union. He also played fast pitch softball for the famous Front Page Cigar team and served as commissioner of the West Springfield Football League. He was a communicant of St Thomas Church. His loving wife, Grace (McCarthy) Pashko died in 2011 and his son Robert Pashko passed away earlier this year. He leaves his children, Peter J. Jr. (Anne), Linda Normand and her husband Mark, Francis and his wife MaryAnn, Joseph (Linda), and Annmarie Fitzsimmons and her husband Bill all of West Springfield, his loving sisters, Sophia Barlow of Holyoke and Lillian Vangel of Ludlow, his 9 beloved grandchildren and 5 loving great grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday at 9am from the TOOMEY-OBRIEN Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will be in St Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 – 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s name to the Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
