Obituary for Miss Valerie Janell King KING, Miss Valerie Janell – Age 14, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018 at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Promise Tabernacle Church, 815 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Frederick L. Flowers Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Public viewing will be during the family hour only. Valerie Janell King was born on April 18, 2004 in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She was the fourth child of Elder Tony and Mrs. Beverly King. Valerie was an integral part of the King family and she shared a special bond with her parents and each of her siblings. Valerie’s name means strong and brave. She exhibited these characteristics as different challenges arose throughout her life. Through all these challenges, The Lord gave Valerie and her family the grace needed to endure each trial. She fought to remain joyful with the reassurance from her family, who was always there by her side to comfort and love her. The King family vacations always centered on the care of Valerie and having fun. We enjoyed each other’s company, but we as a family, realized the responsibility we had with taking care of someone as phenomenal as Valerie. She enjoyed attending church, and it was evident during praise and worship by her smiling and waving her arms during the service. We are so grateful that God blessed us to have Valerie in our lives for 14 years. On Thursday, August 9th, 2018, Valerie passed away peacefully with her parents at her side. Valerie leaves to cherish her memory: father, Elder Tony King; mother, Beverly A. King; sisters, Allison N. King, Karyn S. King, and Kayla D. King; brother, Justin A. King, all of Flint Michigan; grandmothers, Ms. Betty J. King of Cleveland, MS and Mrs. Ethel L. Robinson of Mound Bayou, MS; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and special friends of the family. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Frederick L. and Mrs. Donna Flowers, the Promise Tabernacle Baptist Church family, the doctors, nurses, and staff of the University of Michigan Pediatric and Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the nurses at Maxim and Mercy Plus Health Care, and all of Valerie’s teachers at the Genesee Intermediate School District.
