Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Britko Mary Elizabeth Britko, 95, of Esville, our generous, helpful, and devoted mother and grandmother was born into eternal life on the morning of Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at New Hope Bay. Mary was born in Bay City on February 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Albert Sr. and Petronella “Nellie” (Huiskens) VanGaal. She graduated from St. John’s High School in 1941 and went on to meet and marry Peter J. Britko on September 23, 1950. Peter preceded Mary on December 15, 1995. Mary retired from the former Peoples National Bank (now PNC) where she was the head bookkeeper. During World War II she worked in the Bay City Chevrolet plant. A devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, Mary will forever be remembered for her unwavering love of her family. She was an avid Tigers baseball fan and enjoyed playing Bingo on Friday’s at the V.F.W. In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening and was known to be mowing her own lawn well into her 80’s. She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, Mary Susan (Tom) Brady of Bay City, Peter John Britko of Pinconning, Michael James (Nancy) Britko of Esville, and David Joseph (fiancĂ© Teresa Hartwick) Britko of Saginaw; grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) Drzewicki, Jeffrey (Rachel) Drzewicki, Megan Britko (Calvin Bagley), Travis Britko; step-grandkids, Jeremy (Christine) DeCoire, Jessica and Hogan Kooinega, along with her great-grandchildren, Olivia Drzewicki and Trinity Decaire, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was welcomed home to heaven by her brother, Albert (Shirley) VanGaal; father and mother-in-law, Gabriel & Suzanna Britko, and her sisters-in-law, Mary (Joseph) Ezakovich, Rose (William) Verduyn, Anna (Frank) Spegel, Katie Welborn, and Irene Patrick. Mary’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for Mary at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Saturday, August 18, 2018, Mary will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Esville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until Mary’s 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
