MARIA JULIENNE September 14 1928 July 23 2018

Obituary for MARIA JULIENNE Death is silent, peaceful even, and on July 23, 2018, in the presence of family members, it quietly released the spirit of MARIA JULIENNE from her earthly body after a painful battle with cancer. Maria “Mieke” Julienne was a strong, courageous, and adventurous woman. How else can you describe a young wife and mother who left family, friends, everything she had ever known in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands, since her birth on September 14, 1928, to journey to a foreign country halfway across the world? Maria did that, and much more, moving, first, to Alexandria, Virginia, and then, a few years later, pioneering across the United States in their 1958 Plymouth station wagon to settle in Newark, California, where, for the next 50 years, she made a home for her family, a place where her growing children and grandchildren, and their friends, felt comfortable gathering. In the twilight of her life, Maria embarked on one last escapade, moving to Sunrise Senior Living of Rocklin, where she maintained both her independence and her sense of adventure, finding joy in sharing new experiences with new-found friends, until her crossing over. Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Cornelis Julienne, and is survived by her sister, Tres Visser, of the Netherlands. Maria leaves behind seven children — Astrid Julienne of New Mexico, Anita Newman of Washington, and Leon Julienne, Frank Julienne, Paul Julienne, Ingrid Smith and Davina Julienne-Rohner, all of California — and their families, including 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren who will miss sitting at the kitchen table with her, doing homework or making plans while she drinks coffee, as well as several nieces and nephews in the Netherlands who are mourning the passing of their “Tante Mia”. The family would like to extend their warmest gratitude to the hospice staff who made sure Maria was comfortable in her final days and, in lieu of flowers, asks that Sutter Care at Home and Hospice of the Valley, PO Box 160045, Sacramento, CA 95816 (www.suttercareathome.org/giving/fundingopportunities.html#top) be gifted with a donation in memory of Maria J. Julienne. Condolences can be sent to: 2800 Tam O Shanter Dr. El Dorado Hills, CA. 95762 To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of MARIA JULIENNE please visit our Sympathy Store.
