Obituary for Mrs. Maggie Byrd Maggie Byrd was born March 12, 1923 in Scotland County, North Carolina to Henry and Della Clark. She was one of 11 children, all whom preceded her in death. Maggie was married to the late Willie J. Byrd of Paterson, NJ and had two beautiful girls, Doris Jean Hosea who preceded her in death and Willie Mae Ward, both of Neptune, NJ. Before moving to New Jersey, Maggie worked at Camp McCall in North Carolina. She also worked for Artlin Mills, Long Branch, NJ and Sanitary Linens, Neptune, NJ for many years. Maggie retired from Sanitary Linens in March 2005 at the age 82. Maggie had a beautiful smile and spirit. She had many talents. She truly enjoyed sewing, cooking (she was a great cook), and she loved old school music. She traveled a lot. You can always find Maggie on a bus trip to Atlantic City and traveling to her family reunions. Maggie loved her plants so much, her home looked like a forest because she grew them beautifully. Maggie always had a welcoming smile whenever you saw her. She had a genuinely open heart. She was always willing to help anyone whether she knew you or not. She has opened her home to many, many people in her lifetime and fed anyone that came to her home. She did not hesitate to share whatever she had if you needed any help. Maggie’s favorite saying was “Always try to do your best and everything will be alright. Just always trust in God and He’ll give you the strength that you need.” She enjoyed her family and friends whenever they got together. After 95 years, God decided her purpose was complete and quietly called her back home. She died peacefully in her sleep August 14, 2018. She is survived by her beloved and devoted daughter, Willie Mae Ward, grandson Tracy, granddaughters Monacia Hosea and Vernetta Dunbar, grandson Henry Glenn, and granddaughter Willie Mae Patricia Graham; 11 great-grand children, Jason and Jennifer Hosea, Je’Nae Dunbar, Tracy Dunbar Jr., Ashley Hosea, Dae’Sean Brown(helped took care of her the last few months of her life), Darien Watson, Naima Watson, Imani Dunbar, Antonia Dunbar, Jaden Dunbar; 2 great-great grandchildren, Aiden Vicdor Hosea and Kyah LulaJean Brown, Gwendolyn Glenn, whom she loved as a daughter and helped care for her since 2014; Kenae Shoats and Jennie Poole whom she loved as her granddaughters, one loving sister-in-law, Edna Clark of New York,; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
