Lucy Ellen Lulie Beiler Bender June 11 1942 August 21 2018 (age 76)

Lucy Ellen “Lulie” Beiler Bender, 76, Cleveland, Tenn., went home on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Lucy was born on June 11, 1942, in Grantsville, to the late Melvin W. Beiler and Ruth Beachy Beiler. Lucy married Mark Reuben “Bud” Bender on Aug. 24, 1960. After 10 years of marriage, they parted ways. In an ironic turn of events, Lucy and Mark were reunited in spirit on Aug. 21, 2018. Lucy is survived by her three sons, Stephen Mark Bender (and Janice), Pittsburgh, Pa., Michael Dean Bender, Charlottesville, Va. and Nicholas Scott Bender (and April), Ventura, Calif.; three grandchildren, Stephen Robert Bender, Yucca Valley, Calif., Brian Eric Bender, Cranberry, Pa. and Jeffery Michael Bender, Washington, D.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Stephen Murray Bender and Briana Lynn Bender. She is also survived by her brothers, Ron Beiler and Larry Beiler; and sisters, Daisy Townsend, Ruth Yoder and Judy Mayhill; along with many nieces and nephews. Lucy loved writing. She wrote a book “The Outside World” published by Herald Press in 1969. Lucy was an adventurous spirit. After many years as an administrative assistant in various departments and dean’s offices at WVU, she moved to Virginia Beach to work at CBN and then on to other organizations. She enjoyed ministering to the homeless at Virginia Beach and made many friends. She volunteered for many charitable and religious organizations in the area. She then moved to Maryland to work for a mortgage company but missed the beach area and returned to Virginia Beach. After many years at the beach, she yearned for the mountains, so on to Tennessee she went. Lucy lived in Cleveland, Tenn., where she assisted in church activities and continued her writing. There will be a celebration of life for Lucy at Springs Mennonite Church, Springs, Pa., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Springs Mennonite Church, P.O.
