Obituary for Kathryn M. “Kat” Smith Dateline Valparaiso, IN Kathryn M. “Kat” Smith, age 35 of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Jasper, IN, passed away at 4:34 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Methodist Hospital North in Gary, Indiana. Kat was born in Huntingburg, Indiana on April 17, 1983 to Richard Alan and Charlene D. (Ruckriegel) Smith. She was a loving mother and enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family. Surviving are two children, Joey Taylor and Charlie Taylor of Huntingburg, one step-daughter, Maisie Taylor, Huntingburg, companion, Cliff Handley, Valparaiso, father, Richard Alan Smith, Valparaiso, one brother, Elijah Smith, Jasper, maternal grandmother, Lois Ruckriegel of Jasper, Aunts and Uncle, nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Preceding her in death was her mother, Charlene Ruckriegel Smith. Funeral services for Kathryn “Kat” Smith will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow at a later date. A visitation will be held from 1p.m. until the 5:00 p.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, IN. on Friday, August 31, 2018.
