Joseph “Pepe” Sanzi, 78 of Potter Road, Auburn, died Thursday, August 23, 2018 at The Commons on St. Anthony, following a lengthy illness. Joe was born in Taverna, Calabria, Italy on February 19, 1940, the son of the late Pasquale Sanzi and Elvezia (Sanzi) Fratto. He was employed for many years by the Laborers’ Local 333 Union prior to his retirement in 1993. Joe was a life member of the Weedsport Rod & Gun club and the Sons of Italy. He is survived by his four children; Joseph P. Sanzi (Marsha) of Weedsport, Caterina Gagnier (Robert) of Auburn, Anthony Sanzi (Michele) of Weedsport, and AnnMarie Bates (Jim Hillegus) of Auburn; his grandchildren Nicholas and Michael Sanzi, Adam and Logan Gagnier, and Alaina Bates; several siblings, nieces and nephews In addition to his parents Joe was predeceased by Sandra Cipriano Sanzi; several siblings. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Rd., Auburn Contributions may be made in memory of Joe to the Throop Fire Department, 7159 Beech Tree Road, Auburn, NY 13021.
