Mrs. Joan M. McCann (nee Miller), a lifelong Kearny resident, passed away on Thursday, August 16, at home. She was 86. The funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, August 20, at 10am in St. Stephen’s Church, Kearny. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit in the Condon Funeral Home 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny (condonfuneralhome.com) on Sunday from 2-6pm. Mrs. McCann was a longtime member of the Arlington Woman’s Club EMD division. She had been employed by Rutgers University in Newak as the executive secretary to the Dean until retiring in 1994. Previously she had been employed by The Prudential in Newark as an executive secretary until leaving to raise her family. She was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church. Joan was a 1950 graduate of St. Cecilia’s High School in Kearny. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert W. McCann and her loving children, Beth McCann (Nigel Hankin), Michael R. McCann and Ellen J. Stoute. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren, Alice, Julian, Emily, Gabriel and Isabelle as well as her brother, Edward Miller.
