Jean Marie Aiello 1937 2018

Obituary of Jean Aiello HERKIMER – Mrs. Jean Marie Aiello, age 80, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 29, 2018, at the St. Luke’s Home in New Hartford. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love of her devoted family. Born on September 6, 1937, Jean was the daughter of the late Louis E. and Josephine (Blasting) Averson. She was raised and educated locally, graduating with the Herkimer High School Class of 1955. She then went on to further her education at the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing where she earned her license to practice as a Registered Nurse. Jean’s nursing career spanned many decades and at times she worked for the Mohawk Valley General Hospital in Ilion, the Folts Home in Herkimer and the Herkimer Memorial Hospital, from which she retired. On September 26, 1959, Jean was wed to Mr. Donald L. Aiello at St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer, and together they shared in a marriage spanning over forty-two years until Don’s passing on March 30, 2002. They were a hardworking and inseparable couple who raised six children and built a beautiful life together. As a wife, mother and grandmother, Jean was second to none. Her family meant everything to her and she cherished the times she could spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found strength in her Catholic faith and was a parishioner of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church. She was a lover of nature and meticulously tended to her flowers and garden. She loved music and travel and her caring, sweet and loving demeanor will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Mark Tomaino of Ilion, Judith and Richard Dotero of Remsen and Gina Aiello of Frankfort; her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Aiello of Frankfort, Joseph and Lori Aiello of Ilion and Louis Aiello and fiancé, Maureen Carney of Ilion; her grandchildren, Jillian and Aaron Mallory, Ryan Brimley, Bobbie Jean and Jeremy Wisheart, Toni Ann Dotero, Anthony Thomas and Simi Aiello, Joseph Aiello, James Aiello, David Aiello and Alexa Aiello; and her great-grandchildren, Lennox, Brayden, Cruz, Riley, Connor and Theodore. An ode of gratitude is extended to the nurses and staff of the St. Luke’s Home for the compassion and care shown to Jean throughout her stay there.
