James Starks, the son of Joseph Walker and Carrie Starks was born in Brown Station, Alabama, on January 6, 1938, and departed this life on August 12, 2018, surrounded by family. James “Jimmy” Starks, lovingly known as “PaPa Smurf”, and “The Black Prince”, gave his life to Christ Jesus at an early age. He loved the Lord, his bible, and talking about Jesus Christ. Jimmy attended Central High School and served his country, in the United States Army. He worked for the PTC Bus Company for more than 25 years, until he retired. Jimmy was a faithful member of the American Legion Post #148, where he regularly sang his favorite karaoke songs. He loved his family, singing on any and every occasion, watching his favorite T.V. shows, and speaking to his loved ones on the phone. In his earlier years he loved listening to and talking on his CB radio under his handle, “The Black Prince”. He was the epitome of a true and loving family man. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Ruth Starks, two daughters; Viveca (Ernie) Meriwether, and Victoria (Victor) Nelson, a son Ronnie Campbell, special sons; Scotty Brown, Matthew (Yolanda) Jackson, Shaun (Shae) Jackson; two brothers; Dr. Lewis Walker, and Billy (Helen) Jones, sister Geneva Williams, 16 beloved Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, special friends, Curly Johnson, and Haroun Bangura, Pastor Harold “J.J.” Johnson, and Larry Chapman; along with a host of close family and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Walker, Carrie Starks, and Sally Jones, his sons, Johnny Hogan, and Ricardo “Yacub” Jones, and his grandparents, Lazarus and Ethel Starks.
