Hoyce Elton Bryant June 15 1930 August 18 2018

Obituary for Hoyce Elton Bryant Hoyce Elton Bryant was born June 15th, 1930 in Darbun Mississippi to John Robert & Leona Katie Moore Bryant. Nickname “Red” for his richly colored hair, he was the fifth of eight children, and grew up in the greater Tylertown area. He enlisted in the army and served for five years in the late forties and in the early fifties, serving during the Korean War. During his time in the service he penned letters home to a young girl that would eventually become his wife; Helen Genevra Croston. The two married and took up residence in Zanesville, Ohio in the summer of 1954. In the decade plus following, the two had four children together, all the while relocating to Canton, and then to Louisville. After two decades in Louisville, the two came back to Canton to live out the rest of their days. Hoyce’s love for plants and wildlife ran as deep as the Mississippi River that runs along the state of his birth. In the mid 1970’s he started his lawn care business which continued to grow and prosper through the early 2000’s. At any given visit to his house, you were likely to leave with some vegetables in hand and knowledge in your mind about horticulture. It was also not uncommon to spot a cat or two sneaking through the vines and leaves, as they served as a type of mascot in his outdoor paradise. When he wasn’t outside churning and tending to his gardens, he could be found at the Laborers Local 1015 among peers, or in a competitive game of dominoes with a family member at the kitchen table. Hoyce was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints after being baptized at age 8. He continued to enjoy fellowship and visits with church members even when he became unable to attend traditional services on the Sabbath. Hoyce is survived by children, Jeffrey (Karen) Bryant, Rebecca (Kevin) Johnson, Sherra (Darrell) Miller. Preceded in death by wife, Helen Bryant; son Dennis Bryant. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 20+ great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
