Obituary for Mrs. Georgia Clark Georgia Clark, 91, of Ames, formally of Winnsboro, Louisiana passed away August 10, 2018. Visitation will be 9 AM Friday, and funeral services at 10AM in the River of Life Church, Winnsboro, Louisiana, with a burial to follow in the Coax Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home-Winnsboro. Georgia Mae Clark was born on February 22, 1927 in Baskin, Louisiana, the daughter of Garnel and Essie (Phillips) Southern. She married Dale Clark Sr. in 1947. In 1950, they moved to Ames while Dale attended Iowa State College. After graduating in 1954, they moved to Schaller, Iowa. While living in Ames from 1968 until 1985, Gerogia enjoyed working seasonally with her husband in the research plots at Ames Seed Farms. They also traveled to Brazil to teach the farmers how to grow popcorn seed. Georgia loved her grandchildren most; she spent many years traveling to celebrate milestones in their lives. Georgia was a homemaker and raised their six children. Through the years Dale and Georgia were active in their church by serving in various ministries; they supported Pioneer Missions and sponsored children in third world countries. They retired and settled in Winnsboro, LA, Georgia became a volunteer with Good Samaritans and received a 20 year service award In 2010, . She also worked many years in the church nursery at River of Life Church, The Fresh Start Food Bank with her sisters Nell Eley, Nita Kelly and with her brother Ed Southern. Georgia touched many lives over the years. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale (1989); one granddaughter, Angela Mae, and four brothers; Jay Lee, Melvin, Lonnie, and Ed Southern. Georgia is survived by six children, Peggy (Ted) Sterling, Kelley, IA, Dale Jr (Patricia) Clark, Ankeny, IA, Harry (Deb)Clark, Huxley, IA, Pamela West Ames, IA, Anita (Doug) Horak, Anamosa, IA, Bob (Sharon) Clark, Canton, GA; eighteen grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Shaeffer, Minnesota, Christina (Clark) Anderson- Iowa, Todd (Denise) Sterling- Missouri, Stacy (Hank) Denton- Iowa, Dena (Jr) Sydnes- Iowa, Marcie (Marty ) Strouse- Iowa, David ( Niki) Clark- Iowa, Melissa Clark, Rhode Island , Dax(Hayley) Clark- Iowa, Gavin (Emily) Clark- Minnesota, Jason (Emily) Kratz- Iowa, Jennifer(Brandon) Burkhart- Iowa, Danielle (Brian) Woerth- Iowa, Alycia (Tom) Maxwell-Iowa, Malorie Clark- Georgia, Scott(Meghan) Clark, California, Samuel Clark- Florida, Spencer ( Neysie) Clark – Florida; 36 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Nell Eley, Nita (Tom)Kelley, Sarah (Charles) Holmes, and Barbara Denny; brother Roy Ervin (Janice) Southern; special sisters, Bea, Joyce, Faye, and Doris Southern, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, Iowa, or River of Life Church, (Fresh Start Memorial Fund) Winnsboro, LA.
