Edna Bates Combs, 77, of Thornton passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at the Bluegrass Navigators in Hazard, Kentucky. Edna was the daughter of the late Henry and Sarah ton. She was the widow of Alex Combs. Surviving is 3 sons: Elmer Bates Jr. of Neon, Gilbert Alan Bates of Thornton, and Shannon Ray Combs of Neon; 2 daughters: Frances Cook of Mayking and Jenny Bates of Thornton; 3 brothers: Leona LaFavors of Indiana, Allene McCool of Knott County, and Ricky ton of Whitesburg; grandchildren: Derek Cook, Sandra Holbrook, Elmer M. Bates III, James Bates, Gilbert Alan Bates Jr., Edna Lee Eldridge, Lester Dewayne Bates, Gary Lynn ton Jr., Robert Paul ton, Shaina Combs, and Kelsey Combs along with a host of great grandchildren. Funeral: 1:00 O’clock P.M. Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Craft and Morgan Bates officiating. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel.
