Obituary for Earl Leon Fortner Earl Leon Fortner, age 84, of Sanilac County, formally of St. Clair County, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 26, 2018. Earl began working as a farmer, from there he went on to work at Ira Wilson Dairy. Following that he worked for Michigan Milk Dairy Association. He spent most of his working years working for the State of Michigan in the milk industry. Earl was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sharing his love of hunting and camping with friends and family. His wide range of abilities and easygoing manner made him a respected member of the community. Earl was a member of the Marion Lodge No. 392, Deckerville. He had a special spot in his heart for his hunting dogs. Earl is missed by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn; daughters, Susan Layman (David) and Sandy Fortner; grandchildren, Jessica and Earl Fortner, Sarah (Keith) Page, and Kate Layman; great grandson, John, and many dear nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be Thursday, August 30 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Marion Lodge No. 392, Deckerville, MI or Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club.
