Constance I. Ruggles, 96 of Eastport, died peacefully August 22, 2018 at Eastport Village Care Home. She was born September 3, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Patrick and Irene (Abel) Doyle and graduated from Central Lake High School in 1939. On July 22, 1944 in Waco, TX she married Herb Ruggles. Together they enjoyed teaching ballroom dancing for many years. Connie enjoyed being outside and was the president of the local Garden Club. In the wintertime she enjoyed cross country skiing even into her 70’s. She also enjoyed traveling. Connie was one of the original paramedics for the Torch Bay Ambulance Service and was a member of the Upper Torch Lake Association. Surviving Connie are her children Bradford (Sandy) of Birmingham, Craig (Geri) of Southfield, Connie (David) Taylor of Central Lake, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded her in death by her husband Herb in 1988. Also preceding her in death were her parents, siblings John, Robert, Patrick, Alice Reitmeyer, Elaine Winterhalter, and dear best friend Elva Cowell. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, September 1st, at 1 p.m. at her home in Eastport, 4935 N.E. Torch Lake Dr. Memorial contributions can be given to the Eastport Village Care Home or Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
