As well as being engaged with her own family, she was very active and proud to be a Para-Pro in the Marion Community Schools system for many years helping children learn to read. Her passions included Marion Giants basketball, being a current season ticket holder starting in high school, and an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. Joan was lucky to have not just one best friend throughout life, but having three to enjoy traveling, the Giants, and miscellaneous mischief. (Cathryn) Buck, Carmel; daughter and son-in-law, Christy (Paul) Butche, Port Charlotte, Florida; treasured cousin, Denise Conn, Avon; four grandchildren, Jason (Staci) Buck, Selma, Julie (Scott) Moorehead, Carmel, Amanda Butche, Port Charlotte, Florida, and Gabriel Butche, Troy, Michigan; and seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Jackson, Sofani, and Anna Buck, Mason and Marlee Moorehead, and Savannah Conn. In addition to her cherished parents, she was preceded in death by a dear uncle, Vernon McMillan, and her three best friends, Barb Street, Norma Thomas, and Evelyn Button.
