Barbara Ellen Nelson Walker, Lindon, passed away August 10, 2018, from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 82. Barbara was born February 19, 1936 to James Victor Nelson and Mary Venola Slaugh in Vernal, Utah. She was the third child and only daughter of six. When she was twelve, Barbara took on the role of mother when her own mother became sick and eventually passed away four years later. Barbara married Boyd Walker on June 24, 1954 in the Manti, LDS temple, and they settled in Lindon, residing there for the majority of their married life. Together they raised five children and helped raise a number of other children at various points in their lives, including Emerson Barton who lived with them through most of his school years. She held numerous LDS church callings with her favorite being the music leader in Primary. She also loved her missionary calling with Boyd when they served at the Provo Missionary Training Center, working with the international missionaries. She was an active volunteer: election judge, PTA, and multiple community events and projects. She and Boyd were Lindon Days Grand Marshals in 2013. She led a selfless life. She is survived by Boyd, her husband; and her children, Terri (Bruce) Harper, Jolene, Janet (Bill) Brickey, Bryan (Marcy), and Kirt (Nicole); 20 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Ray, Max, and Ron. She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Jim and Lynn. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel located at, 731 East Center Street, Lindon, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
