Funeral services for Arlyn Jeanne Merrill, 89, will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Douglas, Wyoming with The Reverend Bobbe “Father Bobbe” Fitzhugh officiating. A second funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Temple, Texas with The Reverend Bobbe “Father Bobbe” Fitzhugh officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas. Arlyn Merrill died Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas. Arlyn was born Monday, March 12, 1929 in Burton Texas the daughter of Albert Emil and Elfriede Sophie (Melchoir) Krause. She was raised and educated in Austin, Texas and graduated from the Austin High School in 1947. She attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in business. She later returned to college and attained a nursing degree from Scott and White School of Nursing in Temple. She worked as a nurse for Scott and White. She was married to Daniel Edward Merrill on December 10, 1950 in Austin at the Saint David Episcopal Church. They owned and operated Temple Welding Supply. They sold this business and began traveling in their Air Stream travel trailer. They traveled all 50 states and Canadian providences enjoying making lifelong friends. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was an avid University of Texas Longhorn fan, especially the football team. She has resided in Douglas since May, 2017 and the last few months of her life she resided at the Douglas Care Center, where she dearly loved the residents and working staff. She had a longtime membership in Christ Episcopal Church, first in Temple for over 60 years and most recently at Christ Episcopal Church in Douglas. She was very proud of that. Arlyn is survived by her children, Margaret “Maggie” (Mike) Esselman of Douglas, Dana (Phillip) Groskinsky of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Daniel O’Brien (Rosamund) Merrill of Mason, Ohio; son-in-law, Murphy Talley of Belton, Texas; brother, Lynwood Krause of Austin; grandchildren, Christopher Kruppa of Tomball, Texas, Jen White of Boulder, Wyoming, Daniel Wensien of Aurora, Colorado, Sarah Thomas of Newport News, Virginia, and Casie Merrill of Mason; eight great grandchildren, and her best friend, Lizzie, a Welch Corgi. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert, on July 22, 1990; mother, Sophie, July 14, 1988; husband, Daniel, on August 31, 2004; daughter, Elizabeth Talley, on July 22, 2002; grandson, Sean Murphy Talley on July 22, 2002; granddaughter, Katie Wensien, on August 8, 2012; and sister, Wilby Kidd. A memorial to the Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1419, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
