Allan Joseph “Big Al” Konyn, age 75, of Menominee, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2018, with his loved ones by his side. Al fought a courageous 10 month battle with a rare, aggressive form of cancer. His unwavering strength and determination when faced with such adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him. Allan was born in Marinette, Wisconsin on August 13, 1943, to Nick and Marie Konyn, the oldest of 11 children. His brothers and sisters looked to him for guidance and support. Al graduated from Marinette Catholic Central High School in 1961. He started his career at Scott Paper Company, now Kimberly Clark, in 1963 and retired in 1999 as a millwright. He served his country in the Coast Guard. In the mid-1960’s he met a raven haired, blue eyed Irish beauty from Menominee named Sharon Wright. They were married September 14, 1968. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage until Sharon lost her battle with cancer in 2007. In 2010, he was blessed to find yet another lovely lady, Maureen Landerman, who brought much joy to his life. Al enjoyed many travels throughout his life including Virginia, New York, Mexico, Las Vegas and Hawaii. His most treasured vacations were when he and Maureen treated his children and grandchildren to multiple family trips to Florida. Al loved the Green Bay Packers and was a proud shareholder. He enjoyed hunting and many fishing excursions with his brothers. Al was also an avid camper and loved spending time around the campfire with his family and friends. He appreciated a good old fashioned, tasty Bloody Mary’s and Friday Night fish fries. He is survived by his daughters, Tricia (Jim) Hurley and Renée (Steve) Ruleau; four grandchildren, Nathalie, Adria, Nolan and Evan; his beloved companion, Maureen Landerman; his brothers and sisters, Kathy (Joe) Parilla, Dale Konyn, Jerry (Sandie) Konyn, Bob (Sandi) Konyn, Lois (Steve) Singer, Mark (Barb) Konyn, Joe (Candi) Konyn, Donna (Tom) Kuehn and Mike Konyn; many nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, Jim Wright and Jack O’Leary. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Marie Konyn; wife, Sharon; a brother, Rodney; a nephew, John; and sisters-in-law, Patricia O’Leary and Jenny Konyn. A kind and gentle soul, he was larger than life and will be missed by all who knew him. Al’s family invites relatives and friends to join in a celebration of Allan’s life from 1 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette. The afternoon will conclude with a prayer service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Allan J Konyn 2018.
