Obituary for Wilson Truman Love, Jr. Wilson Truman Love Jr. was born on December 19th, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina by doting parents and was a childhood member of Myers Park Methodist Church. After graduating from Myers Park High School, Truman attended the University of South Carolina. Opting not to complete his undergraduate degree, he instead joined the United States Army in service of his country in 1962. Truman served multiple tours. He was first stationed in southern Germany where his daughter Laura was born and then later in San Francisco, California where he proudly served at the SF-88 Nike Missile Site at Fort Barry. Post military, Truman returned to Charlotte to pursue a career in law enforcement; a natural transition for him into civil life and a solid fit. He served in both the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and the Mecklenburg County Sheriffs Department, both of which came to be limitless sources of stories and anecdotes which he shared meticulously with friends and family. During this time Truman also provided service to his country as a reservist in the N.C. National Guard. Truman Love had a passion for Action, Outdoors and Nature; flying helicopters and planes, primitive and not so primitive camping, sailing in regattas, attempting barrel racing on horseback, archery, and Science fiction novels. He loved a big ugly truck named “Oscar” and liked to drive him places he should never go. He had a boat named “Molly” he loved to putter around in on the waters near Charlotte. He had a keen interest in technology and owned one of the first IBM 386 Computers with MSDOS and a Green Screen. His Daughter specifically noted his passion for long drives in the country with Carolyn, camping with Milton, sharing martial arts techniques with Dave, cooking spicy food, sky diving, discussing politics with anyone who’d listen, and especially his love for animals. Just two weeks before his passing, he enjoyed holding his granddaughter’s baby geese on the way to a taco dinner outing. And of course he always talked routinely about favorite pets; “Randy” the Lab mix whom he brought home to Laura in his coat pocket when she was a child, “Breeze” the Great Dane who stood as tall as him, the sure footed trail horse named “Andy” who also worked the police beat a few times, and “Gimp” the stray cat with a leg problem who only came out from under the couch to see him or Carolyn. His Daughter Laura routinely noted that both she and Truman shared the same sense of humor, an inherited gene no doubt. At times, she would insist that he “cease and desist” his current line of joking only to pick the line up herself in short order and finish the pun. Truman’s friends were much the same. Truman had a close knit group of friends that consistently reminded Laura they were a very close club. “They stuck together and lived life together” . They took on challenges and tried do what was right. We should all take a moment to honor that mantra in the name of Wilson Truman Love Jr. He will be missed. Truman is survived by his Daughter Laura Love, Grand Children Zachary Keener, Hayden Keener, Anna Keener, Laura’s Husband Hal Keener, Carolyn Norman, Leigh Ann and Randy Mullis. His closest friends included Dave, Betty, Blue, Jim D, Jim J, Steve, Ralph, Frank, John,Joseph, Lynn and Sally.
