Obituary Service Details Thomas Darrell McKinney, 81, of Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Mountain Manor Assisted Living. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Carl and Kate Howell McKinney. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Mary Jo Gregory and a son: David Smith. Tom was a retired truck driver and attended West Burnsville Church of God. Surviving are a daughter: Kathleen (Katie) Kimberling of Westminster, CO; 2 sons: Allan McKinney (Karen) of Green Mountain and Darrell Smith of Lebanon, MD; grandchildren: Levi and Kaitlyn McKinney of Green Mountain, Michael Morales, Victoria Morales (Matt) and Timmie Kimberling, Jr. of Westminster; a great granddaughter: Stephanie Kastrow also of Westminster; 3 sisters: Maxine Westbrook of Hephzibah, GA and Green Mountain, Geraldine Greene of Columbus, GA, Ethel (Jeann) Hudson of Lanham, MD; a brother-in-law: Rev. Jackson (Jack) Gregory of Macon, GA; and 2 brothers: James (Jimmy) Templin (Barbara) of Silver Springs, MD, and Carl McKinney, Jr. of Woodstock, GA. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In honoring his request, his family held a memorial service at Fairview Cemetery at Horton Hill. Pastor Tim Campbell officiated. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain Manor and Hospice of the Blue Ridge. Service Information
