Obituary for Ruth Garrett Wells Grace “Ruth” Garrett Wells, age 91, entered into Heaven on May 31, 2018. She was born in Norris, SC on April 18, 1927 to the late Thomas & Grace Garrett. She graduated Valedictorian from Furman University in 1948 and spent her adult life making a difference in the lives of children as she taught more than 30 years in Edgecombe County and Rocky Mount City schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theophilus Bryan Wells III (TB) and her granddaughter, Peggy Mason Wells. She married TB in December of 1948 and they spent 52 years together in Whitakers where they raised their family and were active in the church and community. Ruth was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and spent her later years studying the Bible and helping others. She loved the outdoors and spent her retirement years gardening and bird watching. Flowers and plants were her passion and she was always sharing them with others. She is survived by sons: Bryan (Annie) of Houston Texas; Bill (Lisa) of Pikeville; Steve (Dale) of Pinetops, NC; Grandchildren Heath (Ania); Brandon (Amanda); Elaine (Chris); Scarlette (Russell) and Stephen (Randi); 10 Great-grandchildren; Karson, Rayland, Jacob, William, Joshua, Emery, Mason, Sawyer, Noah and Oakland. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Pinetops Methodist Church with Reverend Jesse Baker officiating, visitation will follow the service. The family will receive friends at other times in the home of Steve & Dale Wells. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you continue Ruth’s passion, and ask that you plant a flower or shrub in a place of your choosing in her memory.
