Robert L. Swift, 96, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. He was born on September 26, 1921, to the late Russell Swift and Helen (Straub) Swift in Shamokin, PA. Bob was a graduate of Coal Township High School, class 1939. He proudly served in the Army during WWII and was in the 97th Infantry Division in both Europe and the Pacific. Bob was a Harrisburg city police officer and retired as a Lieutenant after 22 years of service. He then became head of security for Cumberland County National Bank (CCNB), which became part of what is now known as PNC Bank. Bob was a member of a number of associations: The Robert Burns Masonic Lodge No. 464, Fraternal Order of Police (Capital City Lodge No. 12), and the Robert H. Hoke American Legion Post 272. Bob was also a member of the Susquehanna Wagoneer’s Camping Club, as he and his wife Marie enjoyed traveling in their RV with friends. Bob was also a competitive member of several pistol teams throughout Central PA. Bob is survived by his daughter, Sandra Bingaman, son Kenneth L. Swift (Janice), sister Norma Welker, daughter-in-law Janet Swift, eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and four nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, C. Marie Swift, son Robert C. Swift, and son-in-law Gary Bingaman. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 12:00 pm, at Paxton United Methodist Church- 3550 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA. There will be a public visitation held an hour prior to the service from 11-12:00 pm. Burial will take place at Rolling Green Cemetery following the service.
