Robert L. Ruhl, 71, of rural Cambridge, died Friday, June 1, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 6th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with military services. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Robert Ruhl Memorial Fund. Robert Lyle Ruhl was born December 17, 1946 in Great Lakes, Illinois, the son of Arthur L. and Helen M. Frerich Ruhl. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1963. Bob served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman from 1964 to 1968 in Vietnam on the U.S.S. America. He married Carol Mayers in October of 1968. His marriage to Shirley Verscheure took place on January 25, 1992 in Osco. He worked as a laborer at John Deere from 1970 until retiring in 2006. His memberships included the Rock Island Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #299. His hobbies were collecting guns, woodworking, and car racing. Those surviving are his wife, Shirley, two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Kay and Chris Gaul, McCausland, IA, Tracy and Devin Wells, Cambridge, four grandchildren, Isabella (Dalton Thrasher) Frisk, Chloe Gaul, Sawyer and Temperance Wells. Other survivors include brothers-in-law, Marvin (Mary) Verscheure, Cambridge, Jerry (Janet) Verscheure, Geneseo, sisters-in-law, Helen Burleson, Moline, Georgina “Pinky” Verscheure, Davenport, and many nieces and nephews. His parents, a son Darren Walters, and a sister, Nancy Ruhl, preceded him in death.
