Rickey Joe O’Donnell, 69, of La Porte, passed away peacefully Monday, June 4, 2018 at La Porte Hospital. He was born October 15, 1948, in Carbondale, IL, to Harry Joe and Pauline Louella (McKinnes) O’Donnell. Rickey was a maintenance foreman at Indiana State Prison for 38 years. He was a member of Lamb Chapel United Methodist Church, La Porte. Rickey coached for the Springville Ball Club for one year. He was an avid Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers fan. Rickey was very supportive… Read More » of his children in 4-H Fair activities. He enjoyed horse races in Henderson, KY, gardening and fishing. Rickey especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He reached out to help others and always offered food when entering his home. Rickey was a creative person who enjoyed telling stories to his children and grandchildren. On February 19, 1977, in New Buffalo, MI, he married Mary Kathleen (Simcox) O’Donnell, who survives. Also surviving are his eight children, Jason and Chase O’Donnell both of La Porte, Adam (Trish) O’Donnell of North Canton, Ohio, Kari (Randall), Kelly, Craig (Cayla), Mark, Hannah (Miguel) O’Donnell all of La Porte; two sisters, Vickie (Dan) Easton of La Porte and Yvonne (Kenneth) Lemmons of Chandler, IN; one brother, Gene (Tissie) Dent of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jayden, Caitlin, Mariella, Addison, Gavin and Shea; and one grandchild on the way, Rickey Joe. Preceding him in death were his parents. A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Ron King officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
