Obituary for Richard Sette COOLIDGE, ARIZONA Richard J. Sette, age 81, formerly of Pheasant Run Road, Belgrade, Maine, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. He was born in New Haven, CT on May 14, 1937 a son of the late Alfred J. and Emily (Riccio) Sette. Mr. Sette was a graduate of Hill House High School in New Haven, CT. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Fordham University in New York and two Masters Degrees of Social work from Springfield College and University of Connecticut. For 14 years, he worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the North Hampton, MA VA Hospital and later worked for several years at the VA Hospital in Togus, ME. He was one of the organizers of the first Post-Traumatic Stress Programs in the United States and was considered the “Grandfather” of PTSD Programs; authoring several books on the subject. Mr. Sette was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Augusta. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Annette T. (Gleason) Sette. Mr. Sette is survived by two sons: Erik J. Sette and his wife Hope of Amhurst, MA and Sean J. Sette and his wife Amy of Coolidge, AZ; five grandchildren: Eden, Emma, Anthony, Dominic and Vincent Sette as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday, June 12th from 9-10:30 AM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Western Ave., Manchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Richard’s memory be made to: Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME, 04330.
